Atlanta Falcons’ Mercedes-Benz Stadium Slips Behind Schedule

Mercedes-Benz Stadium -- the new home of the Atlanta Falcons -- is beginning to show its unusual shape on the city’s skyline as progress continues on its construction. However, although the venue is still scheduled to be completed by 2017, it now appears that the opening date will be a little bit later than first thought. As recently reported by The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, construction on the stadium has fallen behind schedule. Originally projected to be completed by March 2017, the revised estimate now puts the stadium’s target completion date in June 2017. According to Atlanta Falcons owner and chairman Arthur Blank, the delays are due to some unexpected difficulties related to some of the stadium’s innovative design features. “It’s a complex building,” Blank told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. “Particularly, the steel is complicated; the roof is complicated; the halo scoreboard is complicated. The design drawings leading up to fabrication and eventually erection (of the steel structure) took longer than anybody expected because of the complexity.”

Mercedes-Benz Stadium will feature an eight-section roof that opens and closes like a camera shutter, and the venue’s circular LED video board is expected to be the largest single display board in the NFL when it is completed. Fortunately, the construction delays are not expected to impact the availability of the stadium for the Falcons’ 2017 football season. PSL Source will soon begin offering Atlanta Falcons PSLs for Mercedes-Benz Stadium. Benefits of Atlanta Falcons PSL ownership include the ability to transfer or resell the PSLs and the right to purchase Falcons season tickets. Falcons PSL owners are also guaranteed a price lock on season tickets for the 2017, 2018, and 2019 seasons.
