Baltimore Ravens Switch to Natural Grass at M&T Bank Stadium

Big changes are currently underway at M&T Bank Stadium as the venue’s artificial turf is being removed in preparation for the installation of a natural grass field. The artificial turf that is being removed was first installed at M&T Bank Stadium in 2010, and not surprisingly, the team is selling sections of the synthetic surface to fans as a one-of-a-kind collectible. Per the official Baltimore Ravens website, sections of the turf that lay between the 20-yard lines will be cut up into small, collectible squares that fans can purchase. The turf has special significance for fans of the Baltimore Ravens, since it is the same surface they played on before they won Super Bowl XLVII in 2013. It’s also the same surface that longtime Ravens’ player Ray Lewis played his last game on before his retirement. Besides offering the smaller pieces of turf as souvenirs to fans, the Ravens also plan to sell larger swathes to benefit the non-profit Ravens Foundation organization. According to the Baltimore Ravens, the natural grass field will likely be completely installed by early May, leaving plenty of time for players to adjust to the new turf ahead of the start of the 2016 football season. The turf replacement is just the latest in an ongoing series of improvements that the Ravens are making to M&T Bank Stadium. Last year, the team improved its stadium-wide Wi-Fi system and installed a new state-of-the-art, 360-degree replay system. Both upgrades helped M&T Bank Stadium achieve its ranking as the second-best stadium experience in the NFL, according to Stadium Journey.
