Bengals Fall to Texans, 19-13

The Houston Texans will advance to the second round of the playoffs after beating the Cincinnati Bengals 19-13 in today's AFC wild card match-up. Cincinnati took a brief 7-6 lead in the second quarter when CB Leon Hall grabbed an errant pass from Texans QB Matt Schaub and returned it 21 yards for a touchdown. The Bengals were unable to keep that momentum going however and soon surrendered their lead when Texans kicker Shayne Graham made a 22-yard field goal before the halftime break. Although they dominated possession, the Texans were unable to get a touchdown throughout the first half, and relied on kicker Graham to provide them with all 9 of their points in the first half. Despite throwing an interception that gave the Bengals their only touchdown of the game, Texans QB Matt Schaub turned in an overall strong performance, completing 29 of 38 attempted passes for 262 yards. Texans RB Arian Foster rushed for an impressive 140 yards, over twice the yardage the Bengals lead rusher, BenJarvus Green-Ellis turned in. Foster also scored the only Texans touchdown of the game when he made a short, 1-yard run into the end zone in the third quarter. The Texans take on the Patriots next, when they travel to Gillette Stadium on January 13th for round two of the playoffs. The Bengals offense struggled in the first half, gaining only 53 yards, but seemed to get traction in the second half, to finish with a total of 198 yards. Bengals QB Andy Dalton completed 14 of 30 attempted passes for a total of 127 yards. This is the second year in a row that Houston has eliminated Cincinnati from the playoffs, as the Bengals continue to endure a twenty-one year stretch without a playoff win. However, diehard Bengals fans know that now is the best time to start planning for the next season of Bengals football.
