Charlotte City Council Approves $144 Million Funding Plan for Bank of America Stadium

The Charlotte City Council has approved a funding plan which gives the Carolina Panthers $144 million in funds to pay for renovations and upgrades to Bank of America Stadium in downtown Charlotte, NC. Charlotte Mayor Anthony Foxx annouced the deal yesterday after a closed-session meeting of the city council, which included Carolina Panthers owner Jerry Richardson. The $144 million payment will be funded by a 1 percent increase in the city's prepared food-and-beverage tax, which is currently at 1 percent. Although the Charlotte City Council has agreed to the proposed tax increase, it must still be approved by the North Carolina General Assembly in order for the deal to be finalized. The proposed $144 million taxpayer-funded payment will cover over half of the total cost of the $250 million renovations proposed by the Carolina Panthers. Some of the proposed upgrades include a new video display and the installation of additional escalators. With the Bank of America renovation plans in the works, now is the perfect time to invest in a Carolina Panthers PSL from PSL Source, your trusted fan-to-fan PSL marketplace. Many Panthers fans and city officials were concerned that the Carolina Panthers franchise might relocate if their requests for funds were denied, but following the conclusion of the closed-session meeting, team owner Jerry Richardson stated that, "I never would want our team to move somewhere else. I never said that." Richardson was born in Spring Hope, North Carolina and has been a longtime resident of both North Carolina and South Carolina. Besides Panthers owner Jerry Richardson's assurances that he won't move the team, fans can also be assured by the fact that the proposed $144 million will be paid-out over a period of 15 years, which virtually guarantees that the Panthers will remain in Charlotte for at least that long. With the Panthers guaranteed to be around for years to come, now is a great time to get a head start on the next season of Panthers football with your very own Carolina Panthers season tickets.
