Chicago Bears Release Jeremiah Ratliff, Sign Ziggy Hood

The Chicago Bears released veteran nose tackle Jeremiah Ratliff on Thursday and in a related move, signed defensive tackle Ziggy Hood. Ratliff, who has been with the Bears since the 2013 mid-season, had already missed the first three weeks of the 2015 season due to a DWI conviction that violated the league’s substance abuse policy. Besides his troubles off the field, Ratliff has also struggled with injuries over the past several seasons, and was most recently sidelined in Week 4 with an ankle injury he sustained in the preseason. However, the four-time Pro Bowler was also widely considered one of the team’s best defensive linemen and recently recorded eight tackles in the Bears’ last two games against the Chiefs and Lions. “We felt moving forward without Jeremiah was in the best interest of our team,” said Chicago Bears general manager Ryan Pace via a press release. “We appreciate his contributions and wish him well. We are also excited to be able to add Ziggy Hood to our roster.” Make sure you are there in person to see DT Ziggy Hood make his debut as a Chicago Bears player! Hood started his NFL career with the Pittsburgh Steelers, when he was the 32nd overall pick in the 2009 NFL Draft. He most recently played for the Jacksonville Jaguars, who released him earlier this week. Across his seven-season career, Hood has played in 96 games, including 46 starts, and has recorded 164 tackles and 12.5 sacks. While the Chicago Bears are currently taking their bye in Week 7, they will return on November 1 when they host the Minnesota Vikings at Soldier Field.
