Dallas Cowboys defensive coordinator Rob Ryan has been let go after his second year on the job. The Cowboys were ranked 19th in the league in total defense for the 2012 regular season, giving up an average of 25 points per game. The struggling Cowboys defense was decimated by injuries this season and they lost several highly regarded linebackers early in the season, including LB Bruce Carter, who has been on injured reserve since November when he dislocated his elbow in a game against the Washington Redskins. A month before Carter's injury, the Cowboys also lost highly regarded LB Sean Lee to an injury when he suffered ligament damge to his toe in a game against the Carolina Panthers. However, despite the injuries that made Ryan's job as defensive coordinator difficult, Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones decided to let Ryan go as part of the "big changes" he has promised to implement in order to get the Cowboys franchise back on track. This is the third straight season that the Dallas Cowboys have missed the playoffs. Rob Ryan is the twin brother of New York Jets coach Rex Ryan, leading some commentators and fans to speculate that the brothers might soon be working together again. However, it has been reported that Jets defensive back coach Dennis Thurman has already been promoted to defensive coordinator for the Jets.
