Dallas Cowboys Put Franchise Tag on WR Dez Bryant

The Dallas Cowboys are not ready to let WR Dez Bryant slip away. In order to prevent the team’s star wide receiver from hitting the market before July 15, the Dallas Cowboys have placed the franchise tag on Dez Bryant. The move comes after the Cowboys and Bryant failed to work out a long-term deal before the March 2 deadline. If the two sides fail to reach an agreement before the deadline this summer, Bryant could end up playing the 2015 season under the $12.8 million tag. The 2014 season was this talented player’s last season under his rookie contract that he signed after being chosen by the Cowboys in the 2010 NFL Draft. Bryant has been a highly productive receiver for the Cowboys with a franchise-best 381 receptions for 5,424 yards and 56 touchdowns across his five-year career. Last season was his best season yet, with 88 receptions for 1,320 yards and 16 touchdowns. Bryant’s efforts helped Dallas make their first playoff appearance since 2009 last season, although the Cowboys failed to make it to the NFC Championship Game after Bryant’s fourth-down catch in a game against the Packers was controversially overturned on review. While the non-exclusive franchise tag makes it more than likely that Bryant will remain with the Cowboys at least through the 2015 season, team owner and general manager Jerry Jones made it clear that he would prefer to secure Bryant with a multi-year contract. “I can tell you I’m not that excited about the franchise tag with Dez simply because I’d like to have our agreement and our business in place for a long time to come with Dez,” said Jones in a statement reported by the official Dallas Cowboys website. “But the franchise is there for a reason and situations like this are what everyone had in mind.” Secure your Dallas Cowboys season ticket rights and Cowboys parking pass today with a quality Cowboys PSL
