Cincinnati Bengals

Game Preview: Bengals vs. Eagles

The Cincinnati Bengals (7-6) will try to pull ahead in what is turning out to be a tight AFC wild card race as they take on the Philadelphia Eagles (4-9) at Lincoln Financial Field tonight. Cincinnati is desperate for a win after blowing a fourth-quarter lead and losing 20-19 to the Cowboys last week, thanks to a last-minute field goal from kicker Dan Bailey. After their unexpected loss to Dallas, the Bengals are now tied with the Steelers (7-6), and one game ahead of the Jets (6-7), for the final AFC wild card spot. Despite the loss, the Bengals are still heavily favored to beat the Eagles, who only recently ended a eight-game losing streak when they beat the Buccaneers 23-21 in Tampa Bay last Sunday. Philadelphia has been plagued by injuries this season and will be missing their starting quarterback, Michael Vick, for the fifth straight game. Eagles RB LeSean McCoy and TE Brent Celek will also be out for tonight's game as they continue to recover from concussions. Fellow Eagles rookies QB Nick Foles and RB Bryce Brown will fill in for Vick and McCoy in tonight's game as Philadelphia looks to spoil Cincinnati's chances at a playoff run. QB Foles passed for 381 yards and no interceptions against the the Buccaneers last week, but tonight he will be facing a Bengals pass defense that is currently ranked 10th in the NFL. Cincinnati, which leads the NFL with 42 sacks this season, will try to exploit rookie QB Foles inexperience and bring defensive pressure on him in order to force errors. On the offensive side, Bengals QB Andy Dalton should have a easy time moving the ball down field with WR A.J. Green, WR Andrew Hawkins, and TE Jermaine Gresham all as potential targets. RB BenJarvus Green-Ellis is also expected to continue to play a major role in the Bengals running game as he did last week, when he racked up 89 yards rushing. The Bengals return to Pennsylvania next Sunday when they face their AFC North divisional rivals, the Pittsburgh Steelers, at Heinz Field on December 23rd.
