Cleveland Browns

Game Preview: Browns vs. Steelers

The Cleveland Browns (2-8) will host the Pittsburgh Steelers (6-4) at Cleveland Brown Stadium tomorrow afternoon, as the Browns try to improve their record against their AFC North arch-rivals. Although many fans are strong supporters of the rivalry, it has become less competitive in the last few seasons, with the Steelers winning 16 of the last 17 matchups. Many Steelers fans also consider the Baltimore Ravens to be the true inheritors of the Browns-Steelers rivalry which existed before the Browns were reconstituted in the nineties. However, with all the recent injuries to first-string Steelers players, this Sunday might be the opportunity the Browns are looking for in order to rejuvenate the rivalry. Besides missing Ben Roethlisberger, the Steelers also recently lost second-string quarterback Byron Leftwich to rib and shoulder injuries. This leaves Pittsburgh with third-string quarterback Charlie Batch, a 37-year-old veteran with over fourteen years of experience playing in the NFL. Steelers WR Antonio Brown is also still questionable for Sunday's game as he recovers from a high ankle sprain he sustained against the Giants two weeks ago. Antonio Brown's absence could slow the Steelers running game and  present some opportunities for the Browns defense to exploit. Steelers safety Troy Polamalu will also be out for tomorrow's game. Despite having a lead quarterback who only has a 55.3 percent completion rate, the Browns have won two of their last five games and have lost only by small margins in the others. Browns QB Brandon Weeden stirred up some controversy recently when he criticized his team for not practicing certain routes enough, which he felt might have contributed to their close loss to the Cowboys last Sunday. One key to a Browns upset could be a stellar performance from rookie running back Trent Richardson. Whatever the outcome of tomorrow's matchup, the Browns won't be waving a white flag anytime soon. After initially promoting a white flag giveaway for the game, the Browns decided to nix the idea because of the white flag's inevitable association with surrender.
