New York Jets coach Rex Ryan has named Greg McElroy as the starting quarterback for Sunday's game against the San Diego Chargers. QB Greg McElroy will take the place of regular starter Mark Sanchez, who has struggled with interceptions all season. Sanchez has thrown 17 interceptions this season, including four in last night's 14-10 loss to the Titans. The Jets lost the game, as well as any hope for making the playoffs, when Sanchez fumbled the snap on Tennessee's 25-yard line in the final seconds. The last time McElroy played was in a home game against the Cardinals on December 2nd, when he replaced Sanchez late in the third quarter and threw the only touchdown pass of the game for the Jets. Although Tim Tebow was listed as the backup quarterback for Sanchez, Ryan decided to go with third-stringer McElroy. Coach Ryan declined to give specific reasons for his choice, but said he consulted with other members of the New York Jets organization before settling on McElroy. "Every decision I make is based on what I believe is the best decision for the team," said Jets coach Rex Ryan after being asked about his choice of quarterback.
