New York Giants Rout Washington, 45-14

The New York Giants decimated Washington at FedEx Field on Thursday night in a 45-14 victory that included four touchdown passes and one touchdown run from QB Eli Manning. Three of Manning’s touchdown passes were caught by tight end Larry Donnell, a largely unknown player who was picked up by the Giants as an undrafted free agent in 2012. “It was a dream come true,” said Donnell in a postgame press conference. “Just sitting here thinking about it in this moment right now, it’s still a dream come true. I’m just focusing hard on getting better and better every day.” Altogether, Manning completed 28 of 39 passes for 300 yards and only one interception. On the other side, Washington QB Kirk Cousins -- who is filling in for an injured Robert Griffin III -- threw four interceptions and only completed 19 of 33 passes for 257 yards. However, it takes a team effort to lose as badly as Washington did and Cousins got some help from his receivers who were twice stripped of possession, including one that set up New York’s first touchdown.

Besides allowing New York to chalk up another victory over a longtime rival, Thursday’s win also gave the Giants a 2-2 record and offered the team a little breathing room in the NFC East standings. “That was the whole thing, to be able to leave here tonight and be 2-2 and 1-0 in the division,” noted New York Giants head coach Tom Coughlin in a postgame press conference. “That was huge. It’s exciting to be in the hunt, and by being able to come out of here with a win, hopefully we have a chance to be.” The New York Giants should have a better idea of what their playoff chances are after they play the Atlanta Falcons at MetLife Stadium on Sunday, October 5.
