New York Jets Topple Indianapolis Colts

The New York Jets now have 2-0 record after beating the Indianapolis Colts, 20-7, in Week 2 of the regular season. The Monday Night Football victory was largely thanks to the efforts of New York’s stellar defense, especially from CB Darrelle Revis. The All-Pro cornerback was responsible for three of the Colts’ five total turnovers in the game, including two fumble recoveries and an interception. “That’s one of our core characteristics on defense is to create turnovers,” said Revis in a post-game interview. “Every week we dissect the opponent and we go through the game plan and try to figure out ways to create turnovers. And that’s something that we’re going to continue to do.” And have already done, Revis might have added. In their Week 1 win over the Cleveland Browns, the Jets converted five turnovers into 21 points, which means the Jets have already forced a total of 10 turnovers this year – three shy of their total from the entire 2014 season. The Jets’ performance against the supposedly stout Colts’ offense also bodes well for new head coach Todd Bowles, who took over the position from Rex Ryan. Ryan, who coached the Jets from 2009 through the 2014 season, was dismissed after last year’s dismal 4-12 record. “We’re trying to make plays and get turnovers and that’s the easiest way to win a game,” observed Bowles in a post-game press conference. “We got some tonight [Monday], we were very fortunate.” The back-to-back wins may also help solidify Ryan Fitzpatrick’s position as starting quarterback. Coach Bowles recently confirmed that Fitzpatrick will remain the starting quarterback until regular starter Geno Smith is healthy enough to play. Smith is currently sidelined with a broken jaw he sustained in a locker room altercation with former Jets player IK Enemkpali. For their next matchup, the Jets return home to take on the Philadelphia Eagles on September 27. Make sure you are there to see the Gang Green play in person at MetLife Stadium.
