NFL Announces Date for Super Bowl LI at NRG Stadium in Houston

Houston-based football fans and fans of NFL football in general now have an important date to circle on their calendars after the National Football League announced that the official date for Super Bowl LI at NRG Stadium in Houston will be February 5, 2017. Although Houston has known that NRG Stadium (previously known as Reliant Stadium) would be the host venue for Super Bowl LI since May 2013, the exact date of the event wasn’t revealed until last week. “We are excited to now know the date, and the Houston Super Bowl LI Host Committee is proud and eager to lock in the countdown to kick-off,” said Houston Super Bowl Host Committee Chairman Ric Campo in an official press release. “It’s a tremendous opportunity to showcase Houston as the forward-looking, global city that it is, as well as come together as a community and have a great time.”

While the NFL’s championship game will of course be the main attraction, the game will also be preceded by over a week’s worth of Super Bowl-related activities and public events. As noted in the Houston Super Bowl Host Committee’s press release, the Super Bowl is renowned for being the most watched sports event in the U.S. with an average audience of over 100 million viewers and it often provides a big boost in revenue for a host city’s businesses.
