Seattle Seahawks Sign Offensive Guard Jahri Evans

The Seattle Seahawks offensive line just gained a whole lot more experience. On Saturday, the team announced that they signed veteran offensive lineman Jahri Evans. Evans was a fourth-round pick for the New Orleans Saints in the 2006 NFL Draft, and spent his entire NFL career there until he was cut in early 2016 after failing to reach a reworked contract agreement with the team. Across his ten-year NFL career, Evans has been a crucial part of the Saints offensive line and earned Pro Bowl honors for six consecutive years, from 2009 to 2014. Evans will bring some much needed experience to the Seahawks offensive line. As many commentators have pointed out, his 153 career starts is more than the entire o-line’s starts combined. That being said, the current line is still in flux, something that offensive line coach Tom Cable noted in a press conference on Friday. “You’re going to continue to see that going forward,” said Cable. “Even tomorrow, for example, we’ll shuffle it around for a little bit, just to look at different combinations and see how they work together, but also to see how a couple of those young guys can handle being in the first huddle against the first defense.” Needless to say, the recent addition of Evans to the Seahawks’ roster is likely to lead to another round of adjustments. And speaking of rosters, the Seahawks made room for Evans on theirs by waiving guard Kona Schwenke, who has been on injured reserve since suffering a torn ACL in 2015. The Seahawks will kick off the 2016 regular season on Sunday, September 11, when they host the Miami Dolphins at CenturyLink Field.
